Bowel Health Care Test

Bowel polyp rapid home test is important for early detection of colon cancer. This rapid test will allow early identification of potential occult blood or intestinal conditions.

Within Europe colon cancer is third place among malignant tumours among men and women after breast cancer.

Who you should take the bowel polyp detection test every year?

  • If you are over 40 years old (both women and men);

  • if you have cancer in your family;

  • if you have at least one of the following symptoms, you need to test yourself today:

-  chronic diarrhoea or constipation, or both;

-  abdominal distension, feeling of fullness or gas retention;

- weight loss and loss of appetite;

- for no apparent reason but always having a persistent mild fever (37.2 - 37.5 C);

- pain in the rectum during a bowel movement, or sitting;

- anaemia.

Why is it so important to take the bowel occult blood test?

Studies have shown that if colon cancer is detected at an early stage, only 10% of the cases end in death within five years, while cancer detected in later stages has over a 90% mortality rate.

In 95% of cases, bowel polyps or tumours cause the large bowel (colon) cancer and they are often discovered by chance during colonoscopy or a CT colonography. If blood is detected in your stool, you can consult a doctor for advanced studies.

How does occult blood test work?

The occult blood test detects small amounts (<2.5 ml / day) of visually non-detectable blood presence in the faeces. Normally, on a daily basis only about 0.5 ml of blood is excreted within faeces. Blood can get into the stool from all parts of the digestive tract from the mouth and ending with the anus.

Prior to testing, no dietary restrictions are necessary. It is recommended not to drink high amounts of alcohol and use medications (aspirin, ibuprofen, corticosteroids, and anticoagulants including marevan) 2 days before carrying out the analysis, otherwise this could alter your results. Plus, should you suffer from gastrointestinal bleeding, this could also impact your test results.

What to do if the occult blood test is positive?

Contact your family doctor for advice.

Since gastrointestinal bleeding may be episodic, it is advisable in case of a negative result to repeat the test for another two consecutive days - ie a total of 3 days.

Stool collection is not recommended during menstrual bleeding and for 72 hours afterwards, or you suffer from bleeding haemorrhoids, since these conditions may provide a false positive result.

If your occult blood test is negative, but the complaints persist, still contact your family doctor.

How to use?

How can you take a bowel polyps type rapid home test?

Taking the test is painless, easy and convenient, whilst the result is fast and reliable. This test will take only a few minutes.

With a test stick take a stool sample and put it in a test container pre-filled with the buffer solution. After shaking the container (to mix the stool with the buffer solution) break the end of the container and place it on the test cassette.

The results can be read after 5 minutes. If two lines appear in the results window, you can assume that probably occult blood is contained in the stool. You should definitely meet your doctor for further clarification. Please note however: occult blood may be due to other factors, such as haemorrhoids.

Rapid test package contains: 3 test containers, 3 separately packed tests, manual.
